Sapporo Won't Leave You

Sapporo is the beer brand in the film “Kita kita”, and it won’t leave you like it did on Tonyo.

This movie had me to drink few bottles of beer, and while drinking, I realized that watching Kita Kita is same as drinking beers.

It is a story of two broken-hearted persons, a blind tourist guide named Lea played by Alessandra De Rossi and a funny lost man named Tonyo acted by Empoy Marquez.

On the onset, I can taste the perfect mix of bitterness and sweetness as Lea discovered that her Japanese boyfriend has been cheating on her, due to overstress - she goes blind. That’s where the character of Tonyo was revealed, a man equipped with superb sense of humor that was ready to make bright colors in Lea’s world full of darkness.

With the hopeful Tonyo convincing Lea with his Filipino home-cooked meals, together with his humor, they finally become friends and develop a romantic relationship.

As the film goes on, it made me feel drunk that I want to consume every bit of the details and scenes up until the end. I want more of the story. That’s how the plot had me at the beginning and lord over until the very last part.

A lot of twists and revelations were the method of Sigrid Andrea Bernardo to pull off the movie.

In the end, Kita kita wowed lots of audiences, including me, as Sigrid proves that Romantic Comedies in Philippine Cinema can be stretched to the stigma that Rom-Com is not your typical story.

Kita kita gave me a good hangover, a kind of hangover that craves another film of Sigrid Bernardo.

This movie also taught me that beers are always there if you need them, and they won’t leave you.

Kita Kita was a masterpiece of Sigrid Bernardo, the director of Ang Huling ChaCha ni Anita and Lorna, and was produced by Piolo Pascual and Bb. Joyce Bernal.

The movie screening was intentionally delayed to further details and scenes as it was supposed to be an entry for the MMFF 2016. It was a success when it was premiered at the Osaka Film Festival.

It was a four-star to me, five being the highest. Some scenes were cliche but nonetheless, it was almost perfect.

From the Director of Ang Huling Cha-cha ni Anita and Lorna, a rom-com film written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernado, Kita Kita is a story about Lea played by Alessandra de Rossi a Filipina woman who works as a tourist guide in Sapporo, Japan and Tonyo played by Empoy Marquez who is also an OFW, who found each other and developed a romantic relationship in the most unexpected way.

The film was produced by Piolo Pascual and Bb. Joyce Bernal, it was supposed to be an entry for the MMFF 2016 but they pulled it out to make it even better. After improving some scenes they released it and was premiered at the Osaka Film Festival.

A very light, funny, and romantic story what more can you ask for? Here are some good points and some bad points if there are, of the film. First, the scenery in the film can make you say that the team has a good taste on selecting location - an urban city with a picture-perfect setting. Second, is the language that the actors used in the film, and what makes a film good is when using a foreign language they study and speak it well. Third one is, the culture etiquette they have shown in the film. Every traveler must show respect to the old-fashioned culture of other countries to pay respect to their ancestry.

Fourth, another good point is when Empoy compared the river of Sapporo to Pasig River, because who doesn’t want a clean water way? You’ll just realized if that happens, the ferry company here in the Philippines will have a lot of passengers and you’ll be surprised what best sights it can offer. Fifth on the list is the Punch Line, you’ll never have a break on laughing because every word they say is a win. Just like this one “Alam mo feeling ko ang pogi-pogi mo. Kapag makita kita, pang-leading man ang mukha mo.” – Lea “Bulag ka nga.” – Tonyo

Sixth, six times in a row now that Two Less Lonely People in the World is playing on repeat on Spotify. The song,of course is about love and that two people found each other at last. They were once alone and now have each other so they are never going to be lonely again. It’s perfect for this film; no other song can do better than this one. Seventh, compose of seven letters the new love team ALEMPOY has made their name, who would have thought that the pair will give us more than what we expect. Alessandra known to have a role of the usual antagonist, now is the one being loved, while Empoy showcasing his comedic side never failed to make us laugh and also see his outstanding acting skill. Eighth, though its figure in endless the film may have disappointed some of its viewers because of the mishap that happened. But for me, I know that certain scene might happen, you can’t really have it all. After it made you feel that you’re not alone, and then suddenly your world turns to black and white again. Avoiding the spoiler, but you’ll need to accept it.

Ninth, the message of the story. While the roles of Lea and Tonyo defined that just because people are ugly doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be loved. And just because people came from bad relationship doesn’t mean they won’t find a good one, all it takes is a little patience to learn to love again.

Tenth and ten reasons why you need to watch this:

1. It’s funny

2. It’s relatable

3. It will give you hope to live and love

4. It will make your day even happier

5. A lot of lessons to learn

6. Cliché, but gold

7. Make you evaluate your life

8. Will make you cry

9. Will make you cherish every moment you spend with friends and love ones, and

10. Will inspire you to be good with every person you meet.

Kita Kita is a four-star for me, the story is very simple, but the way it was told is perfectly in order. The most tear-jerking part for me is when Lea goes back to the places they have visited before, and put on a blindfold just to feel the presence of Tonyo and remember their shared experiences with the place. I don't really know what to feel after watching it, I just thought that in the end everyone wants someone, a friend, a movie buddy, food buddy, or anything that will feel right is just what we want.
